About us

London Bell, President and Communications committee Chair and acting political action committee chair

Interests: International Human Rights Law, Civil Rights, Gender Equity, Disability Justice, Children's Rights, LGBTQIA Rights, and Women, Peace & Security

What inspired you to join the Macomb County NAACP? "As an international human rights advocate and United Nations Fellow, I joined the NAACP not only because of the legacy of its work to advance civil and human rights here at home, but also its historic work at the international level as well. The NAACP was one of the forty-two original organizations appointed by the U.S. State Department under the direction of President Harry S. Truman to advise the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations Conference on International Organization (UNCIO) from April - June 1945. This conference was attended by 50 allied nations, including the United States, and resulted in the finalization and signing of the United Nations Charter (June 26, 1945) - creating the United Nations. At the end of World War II and at one of the most historic moments in world history, the NAACP was at the table.

In the years since the formation of the United Nations, the NAACP has been a strong advocate at the United Nations on behalf of African Americans and all people of color here at home, including through a historic petition submitted to the UN in 1947 by our Co-Founder Dr. W.E.B. Dubois. The NAACP has also officially recognized the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent.

I am a proud member of the NAACP, and I am proud to work alongside fellow members to ensure civil and human rights protections for Black people and all people of color in the United States."

Malea Tipton, Vice-President and community coordination committee chair

Interests: Civil Rights, Education, and Families

What inspired you to join the Macomb County NAACP? "African Americans are under attack in this country. Policies need to be changed, people in power need to be held accountable, and our communities need to be restored. I take pride in not only continuing a family legacy by being an active member, but I know that there is power in numbers and there is work to be done."

What inspired you to join the Macomb County NAACP?  "In the summer of 2020, I realized that I needed to be part of the fight for civil rights in our country. I joined the NAACP and vowed to help dismantle the system of oppression and work towards a more just and equitable future."
